ABOUT THE NDFU FOUNDATION
North Dakota Farmers Union, led by President Matt Perdue and the NDFU Board of Directors, is currently engaged in a strategic process of reimagining and revitalizing the NDFU Foundation. The NDFU Foundation is a 501c3 nonprofit corporation uniquely distinct but deeply connected to the NDFU organization. Throughout the Foundation’s past and at present, members of the NDFU Board of Directors are also appointed to serve as the NDFU Foundation Board of Directors. Moving forward, the NDFU Board of Directors is creating new opportunities for NDFU members to take on important leadership roles in the organization by appointing other NDFU members to serve as the NDFU Foundation of Board of Directors.
Members of the NDFU Foundation Board of Directors are nominated by the NDFU Board of Directors and selected for appointment by the NDFU President, who will also serve as chair of the NDFU Foundation and CEO of the NDFU Foundation. These appointments will be announced – and terms will begin – at the NDFU State Convention scheduled for December 11-12, 2026, in Bismarck.
ABOUT THE NDFU FOUNDATION BOARD OF DIRECTORS
The seven-member NDFU Foundation Board of Directors is responsible for governing the organization in accordance with its bylaws, ensuring mission alignment, providing strategic oversight and supporting long-term sustainability. These duties will be executed in close partnership with the NDFU Board of Directors through the assistance of dedicated staff of the NDFU Foundation and with support from NDFU staff.
- Directors are nominated by the NDFU Board of Directors and selected for appointment by the NDFU President at the NDFU State Convention in December of each year.
- Directors will serve three-year terms (beginning with staggered one- and two-year terms) with the option of reappointment.
- Directors must be current paid NDFU members, residents of North Dakota and 18 years of age or older.
- Directors can expect to attend quarterly board meetings (half-day or less, held virtually or in-person) with one annual board meeting (in-person, possibly held in conjunction with the NDFU State Convention).
- Directors should be prepared to contribute relevant expertise, experience and resources that support the purpose, mission, strategic goals, and staff of the NDFU Foundation.

Gifts to the Foundation do not necessarily have to be monetary and there are a variety of ways to contribute. Donations of more than $1,000 will be recognized at the NDFU state office in Jamestown on a mosaic wall of recognition. Giving levels include: COBALT – $1,000 to $4,999; BRONZE – $5,000 to $14,999; and GOLD – $15,000 and above.

Federal Income Tax Benefits
- Individuals who itemize may elect to claim a deduction up to 60% of their adjusted gross income for charitable donations.
- Corporations may claim a deduction of 10% of taxable income for charitable contributions.
State Income Tax Benefits
- Individual taxpayers who make a charitable contribution in the form of a planned gift may be allowed a tax credit. The tax credit is equal to 40% of the contribution, up to a maximum tax credit of $10,000 for an individual, or $20,000 if married and filing a joint return.)
